Supplies for South Africa
In July, our FBC mission team will return to South Africa to work with other churches in the South Africa Network and our mission partners. Our assignment is to work alongside of Betsy Meyer, our missionary at Thembalethu in KwaZulu-Natal. Betsy has requested that we bring as many of the following items as we can, so we are inviting our FBC family to be a part of this mission trip by donating any of these items during the month of June:
• School Supplies (pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, markers, etc.)
• Medical supplies (adult diapers, basic pain and symptom
medications, gloves, multivitamins, probiotics)
Thembalethu, meaning ‘our hope’ in Zulu, is a community-based South African non-profit organization dedicated to caring for the community in the midst of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and crushing poverty. TCO works to share the hope they have with the sick, orphaned and vulnerable in the Amangwe community. Their vision is to share God’s love, raise awareness, promote and support loving care to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty.
In an area that has an estimated 40% of the adult population infected by HIV and no-one untouched, the need for hope and care is vast. To address the community’s needs, TCO’s core work is to provide
home-based care and community-based care of orphaned and vulnerable children. Their offices are also used as a community resource center for the deep rural community
to better access resources.
