Harrelson Center

HarrelsonCenter.org

The Harrelson Center is a nonprofit center that supports and partners with other nonprofit organizations in the Wilmington community. The center works with its partners to meet the needs of the community such as safe and affordable housing, education, employment, health care and family support. The center recognizes the critical needs of others and encourages, uplifts and assists them in rebuilding their lives through the services provided at the center.

Support is provided to partners through the coordination of collaborative fundraising, education and shared expenses. The Center provides below-market rental rates and paid utilities for its partners. The Center coordinates social and educational opportunities, promotes its partners services to the community and provides volunteer recruitment. This synergistic environment allows all of the nonprofits to operate more efficiently and better utilize their funding.

Habitat for Humanity

capefearhabitat.org

Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry assisting families in the Cape Fear Region towards the purchase of a Habitat home. How do we do that? By building quality homes that we sell at no profit to families in need. As a private, non-profit organization, our interest-free mortgages allow a wider range of lower income families to qualify for home ownership. We work closely with volunteers, sponsors and families in the Habitat for Humanity program to not only construct homes, but to build better lives.

Care Net Counseling

We are a non-profit organization offering counseling services. All of our providers are professionally trained and licensed in the state of North Carolina.

Our goal is for our clients to experience renewal in their lives by promoting psychological, emotional and spiritual health through compassionate, professional counseling. Our therapists also offer faith-integrated counseling.

Interfaith Hospitality Network

www.wihn.net

First Baptist Church hosts homeless families assisted by the Wilmington Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) four times a year. Faith communities throughout Wilmington collaborate to house and provide meals for these families. On a rotating basis, 13 host congregations provide accommodations and meals for up to four families for one week, four times a year. An additional 25 congregations support the hosts, providing material, human, and financial resources to support the program. Volunteers from the congregations provide meals and support services. Contact Gary Gupton at 371-0033 to join this ministry team.

The WIHN mission is to provide Cape Fear's homeless families with emergency and transitional services that assist them in regaining their independence.

MOPS of FBC

MOPS connect moms all over the world to a community of women, in their own neighborhoods, who meet together to laugh, cry and embrace the journey of motherhood. MOPS groups are rallying women to be more honest, to feel more equipped and to find our identity by journeying alongside one another. MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers (birth through kindergarten).

Five14 Revolution

514revolution.org

Five14 Revolution is a strip club outreach organization serving as an interruption to human trafficking and sexual exploitation by bringing hope and empowerment to women working in the commercial sex industry.

Five14 Revolution was created from a passion to awaken an anti-human trafficking movement in North Carolina. We have since narrowed our scope, recognizing a need in our city to reach out to the women in our local strip clubs.

Communities in Schools of Cape Fear

www.ciscapefear.org

CISCF works in partnership with public schools to identify and connect students, many in jeopardy of dropping out, with the community resources they need to stay engaged in school.

CISCF offers programs in area schools and brings community resources, services, parents and volunteers together to help meet students’ needs.

The Help Hub program helps meet the emergency needs of individuals referred by the center's partner organizations and local churches. These needs are often critical in nature and fall outside of the direct mission of the referring partner.

The Help Hub provides consultation to people in need by assisting them with financial needs such as emergency shelter, utility and medical bills and transportation. The Help Hub also connects people with Harrelson Center partners and additional community resources.

Alderman Elementary

Throughout the Gospels Jesus calls his followers to care for their neighbors. We have the opportunity to do just that (literally) with our Activities Center neighbors at Alderman Elementary School. We have begun a partnership with this school that involves many different ministries, from helping with landscaping and painting to providing school supplies for the kids and assistance to the teachers. There are always new needs and projects that deserve our time and resources so that we can make sure that God's love is felt and that the students and teachers know that First Baptist Church cares about them and the Alderman Community. For more information, contact Heather Sutton.
